Last week saw the annual 5020 Casual Dining Sailing Regatta around the beautiful Isle of Wight. Restaurant chains from across the UK, including Wagamama, Fire and Stone and of course our very own YO!Sushi came together in Port Solent, Portsmouth to compete in a total of four intense races over two days.
GPNS sponsored one of the five YO!Sushi boats and three nervous and tired representatives from GPNS headed off to Portsmouth from a slightly cloudy but generally pleasant London on Wednesday morning. We arrived at Port Solent at 9am to gale force 6 winds and plenty of rain! Despite our Salty Sea-Dog Skipper Nigel claiming that it was perfect sailing conditions we were more than a little apprehensive. After a quick hello to our fellow crew members, the lovely guys from Yo!Sushi head office, and the mandatory safety briefing, we were off!
To say we were pushed in at the deep end would be an understatement! We are far more comfortable manning the phones as opposed to manning the decks so we knew this would be a challenge. Within minutes of leaving the harbour however we were tacking, jibing, winching and hiking like seasoned sailors. "The races were hard work but they were all fast learners and more than eager to get stuck in, the GPNS and YO!Sushi crew worked fantastically together and did really well for a group of mostly novice sailors" - Nigel, Skipper.
Overall we came a very respectable 6th place out of the 25 boats that were racing. Everyone had a fantastic time and we all can't wait for next year when we hope to Place!

Bond Aid
Martin Bond, Technical Director at GPNS offers his wisdom on key business challenges that can be solved through technology.
This issue: How do I protect my business when the phones go down?
If you rely heavily on the phone to conduct your business, then it makes economic sense to have a contingency plan in place. So whether there's a natural disaster or internal IT failure, you still need a way of making and receiving calls.
One simple, quick and low-cost answer to this problem is to rely on an external provider to supply a back-up telephony solution.
By using the resources of a dedicated off-site DR solution which can be implemented both manually and/ or automatically, you can have complete piece of mind that will always be available to customers.
GPNS has its own resilient Swyx IP telephony server whereby each customer has their own customised DR dialing plan setup that automatically comes into force if the SIP exchange is unable to deliver the call to the customer's onsite telephony system.
Calls are then re-directed (a special DR announcement can be played before call forwarding) in accordance with the pre-prepared template. You can even forward individual DDIs to mobiles or any other numbers, whilst main numbers can be forwarded to a group of mobiles either sequentially or on a round robin basis.
